Too bad the machine wouldn't load one blank disc and I tried three different name brand discs in both DVD-R & DVD+R formats. Then I tested it attempting to play three individual store bought DVD movies and it was the same thing. It wouldn't load the discs. The only thing worse than the disappointment and the time I wasted was shipping it back via UPS. They were absolutely the worst! So, all in all it turned out to be a real fiasco. Although, there was one very bright glimmer of light throughout this whole thing and that was eBay's rep was on top of everything from the time I first contacted them and they saved my headache from getting any worse.

The repair on these if it more than a simple adjustment isn't worth taking to the shops anymore. Also getting harder to find units that allow taping for viewing at a later date. Thsi unit does allow that both in DVD and video format. Easy to hookup with clearly labeled connection on the back and 3 right at front for cameras or portable devices. I find that feature a godsend for transfering or just ease of showing digital pictures of video through the unit and having the connection r ight at the front makes it very simple.

This unit is reasonably heavy so it donesn't move on you just from inserting a vcr tape like many of the light weight cheapies do. I have not had a lot of time to fully check out repeatedly on all of the functions and the remote takes some getting used to where the correct buttons are to activate the feature you want. Myself I feel the remote isn't organized in a easy accesable way. I always felt major command features should be at the top of the remote like VCR vs DVD or else set up with and upper and lower box with the corresponding buttons for those features. Unfortuantely manufacturers don't have a clue to a universal arrangement and I still suffer from finding the correct button for the feaure I want when I want it so have to go back and rewind or backup the program to see what I missed while I deal with my remote location issues. It may be just me but I also feel it is the manufactueres responsiblity to do their research and make quality products that are seamless for the customers to use to make the experience a very postive one.

My 1st Magnavox from 20 some years ago ran like a trooper for many years of trouble free service so thus I chose to go with them again. Easy basic operation and hook up, produces good copies to CD's or VHSMy first impression was that the unit seemed to be more complicated than it really is.

After reading the setup instruction carefully all connections were made and I was making copies of VHS and Mini cam tapes to CD's very easily.The unit does require a separate VHS or CD player connected in line to reproduce the copies. I simply set my Magnavox dual VHS & CD/DVD player on top, connected the two units with RCA plugs, ordered and received a HDMI 6' connector for hook up to the TV.Everything works well and the unit produces a very good CD copy of the original tape and also will record and burn directly from the TV. Of course, the quality depends on the tapes being copied. I have saved a lot of home movies and vacation footage to longer lasting CD's and can now reuse the tap es to record new footage for later conversion.The dubbing and insertion of menu's and chapter titles takes a bit longer for a greenhorn to get the hang of and it always help if you know someone to get 'how to' help from which is the reason for the 4 rating instead of 5.
